Latin was the most widely studied language. Latin, commonly referred to as classical Latin, was the common language used during the region of the Roman Empire. Classical, Latin became the root language for English, Italian, French and Spanish.
As other European language started to dominate, Latin begins to be studied for its own sake as an intellectual exercise in the analysis of his structure and translation. 
 English is most widely studied language today. The English language is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. The English language has become the language of international communication. English is the primary language of business throughout the world. Most international business transactions, including emails, memos, reports and contracts, are written in English. These are the vital reasons English language has become most widely studied language today.In today's world, there are over 7000 languages and learning one language will help you in life massively. Learning a new language takes dedication. Learning English, as a second language, increases job opportunities in many careers. It improves learners' understanding of his/her native language.
International companies believe if their staff is bilingual, it means they may represent their company in a better way, when dealing with international companies or international clients.
English is used as an official or semi- official language in over 60 countries. English has become international language which people need to know in order to communicate with each other’s around the world.
