Teach yourself to read

In my region people avoid to read and write, everyone prefers  oral communication, oral instruction and voice records. Do we ever think this has influenced our kids too? Even children do not want to read books.
When I was a child I use to enjoy reading may be it's because that time television was brought cast limited children's program. Books use to play big drama, fantasy, but now even children’s books turning into movies, that is making our job harder to create a reading habit for children.
In such a scenario all we can hope for is that every kid finds knowledge and magic unfolding in the pages of a good book.
Even my son brings book from the school library and throw it on the shelf until he have to return it. The school believes if they expose children to the books they will learn reading, but just exposing will not do that. Parents and teachers must discuss with kids stories or books they are reading.
I think we should set the right example, children love to imitate their parents. Therefore, we should read our own books and let our children see. As well as we should read with our kids. Discuss books and visiting the bookstore and library with our kids is a great idea. We should make it like competition  set a time on how many pages one can read.
Parents should buy them books instead of buying them as an expensive video game, kids have a short attention span and thus get bored with the same kind of stuff.
Encourage children to read instructions on food packaging, ask them to help you installing table or chair tell them to read the instruction.
I always ask my kids to read a recipe when I want to make a cake or cookies, I ask my kids to recheck ingredient when I am backing something. I ask my kids even read cereal boxes, how to store food items after opening it, and expire and production dates.
I believe reading  should be all the time, it should not be restricted to only books. If parents start reading, children will learn reading too.
