Interesting
question! This question made me take a pause and think, what is the future or
English language? This question came in the course ‘understanding language’ of
the British Council. I think the English language is the only language most non
natives are learning, over 700 million nonnative speakers use English. English
will keep growing because this is the only language all countries agreed to globalize.
My
favorite part of this course was different questions about the English
language, what is the future of the English language? Why the English language
is global? who owns English language?
I believe
no, another language has anything like a chance of displacing English. About two-
third of English speakers are not first language speakers of English. Therefore,
English is no longer belongs to English speaking countries. Who uses English language
owns it. English is the world’s language.
Now the
question is what happen to a language when it becomes to the world’s language. It
will shaped by the billion of nonnative speakers. Therefore, future English will
not look like old English. As English grammar gets simpler, the English
language adopted foreign words from many countries.
